FDA and Hormone Replacement Therapy- UPDATE

Announcement: The FDA finally removed the black box warning of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) causing breast cancer and increasing cardiovascular risk.

This is truly good news to all women who ever wanted relief from symptoms of menopause like hot flashes, decreasing bone health, and worsening heart health.

The FDA has finally caught up with what science has been saying all along. HRT is FDA-approved for relief from common menopausal symptoms, such as hot flashes and night sweats (also known as vasomotor symptoms) and symptoms due to changes to the vagina, vulva, and urinary tract caused by decreased estrogen, also known as vulvovaginal atrophy or genitourinary syndrome of menopause. Some HRT products are also approved for the prevention of osteoporosis (bone weakening).

Studies have also found that HRT within 10 years of onset of menopause and can have numerous benefits such as decreasing all cause mortality, fracture risk, Alzheimer’s risk, and 50% reduction in heart attack risk.

If you would like to see if for yourself, here is the link.

There are always things you can do to manage symptoms of menopause and perimenopause (7-10 years before menopause) outside of HRT that are more holistic in terms of nutrition and exercise, and if you would like guidance on applying it to your own life, let’s book a call below.

Create the Habit

Every month, I want to encourage you to create a health habit, because I believe health is truly in your own hands. If you feel like you cannot take out the 30 minutes 3-4 times a week to have a dedicated exercise session, or if you work a 9-5, I would like you to think about incorporating your exercise in increments.

What if I told you, interrupting your sitting every 45 minutes with a short walk or squats, can help decrease sugar spikes after meals and decrease insulin sensitivity. Check out the research here.

I hope this regimen can be less intimidating for my busy women, whether it is because of work or young children. The point is, build a habit, perfect it later!

See if this habit decreases any of the symptoms you experience in perimenopause or menopause using my free symptom tracker below!
